Memories of Lynda at Ghyllgrove Junior School

Created by Libby 4 years ago

As a young teacher, I found Lynda to be an inspiration. She was very creative indeed and I remember she ran a Textiles Club for the kids. She had a certain confidence in her own personal style which was beautiful. Her creative flair was also apparent in many displays of the children's work throughout the school. She certainly livened up Singing Practice too; I can picture her red hair bobbing up and down behind the piano as she taught us new songs for assembly. Previously I remember miming in assembly but Lynda encouraged everybody to sing; so I tried. I enjoyed singing and I enjoyed her company too. She and I both lived close enough to work to cycle through Gloucester Park and sometimes we would walk the bikes back too, laden with shopping and laughing like drains. On the morning of Lynda's funeral I will be accompanying a choir of youngsters to the Basildon Music Festival - I certainly would not be there without a gentle nudge from Lynda. I am thankful to her and I hope she would approve. I would like to think she would smile at this 'pupil' of hers - almost 30 years on.  My condolences go to Clive and 'the girls' at this saddest of times. I remember Lynda with joy and I am thankful to have known her.
